About
The Center for Human Reproduction (CHR) is an independent fertility clinic and research center founded by Dr. Norbert Gleicher in Chicago in 1981. It later moved its base to New York, opening its current Upper East Side building around 2001 and selling the Chicago operations in 2003. Dr. Gleicher and Dr. David Barad lead the clinical team.
The clinic is at 21 East 69th Street, near Central Park. CHR calls itself a "center of last resort" and focuses on difficult cases: women over 40, diminished ovarian reserve or premature ovarian aging, immunological infertility, repeated IVF failure and recurrent pregnancy loss, using individualized protocols drawn from its own research.
Services include IVF, IUI, ICSI, frozen embryo transfer, egg and embryo freezing, fertility preservation for cancer patients, children and men, male infertility evaluation, LGBTQ+ and single-parent care, and an in-house egg donor program. Long-distance and international patients make up more than half of consultations; preliminary testing is arranged locally so most need only a short stay in New York, with help on lodging and language assistance.
