About
The UCSF Center for Reproductive Health is the academic fertility program of UCSF Health, the medical center of the University of California, San Francisco. The program treated its first IVF patient in 1983, and its first IVF babies were born in 1984. It reports the first pregnancy and birth in the Bay Area achieved with ICSI. Dr. Marcelle Cedars, who directs UCSF's Division of Reproductive Endocrinology and Infertility, has long led the center.
The clinic and its embryology and andrology laboratory occupy the sixth floor of 499 Illinois Street on the UCSF Mission Bay campus. Its team brings together reproductive endocrinologists, OB/GYNs, urologists, genetic counselors and embryologists, who also carry out teaching and research.
Services cover infertility evaluation, IUI including donor insemination, IVF with ICSI, preimplantation genetic testing, recurrent pregnancy loss care, reproductive surgery and male fertility treatment. The fertility preservation program freezes eggs, embryos and sperm and handles urgent cases for cancer patients and people starting gender transition. A third-party reproduction team supports an ovum donation program, donor sperm and gestational surrogacy. LGBTQ+ family building includes reciprocal IVF.
